This is the most comprehensive article on chicken housing that I've found. Thank you for all of the time you must have spent compiling all of this info. It has been very helpful in deciding how I will make my broiler house.

Thanks again,

I am going to Haiti to help with a project and part of it involves building houses for free ranging chickens. Looking for a way to gather eggs. I do not think that a movable house will work as the terrain is rough. Will free range chickens go to the coop to lay or if they are used to free range without a house will they continue to lay outside. Not sure if this site is still active?

In reply to <a href="https://www.plamondon.com/wp/range-poultry-housing/#comment-10539">Peggy</a>.

Good point! I haven't used sand myself. It has an interesting reputation in brooder houses, but I don't recall ever hearing it mentioned elsewhere. I'll add it on my list of things to check out next time I spend a day in OSU's Valley Library.

I noticed you never mentioned sand as a bedding material. I can't imagine ever using anything else!! I scoop it out daily with a cat litter scooper and there is absolutely no smell in my coop. And I sling the scooped poop over the fence to my garden.
Just sayin...
